Meet Rance

A native Californian and an outstanding high school athlete with offers to play collegiate basketball or baseball. With strong influence from his father, he selected baseball and signed his first professional contract with the California Angels who are now the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. His well developed hitting and fielding skills quickly advanced him through the minor leagues and by the age of  21 he was in the major league.

During his career he would establish himself as a premier hitter establishing records that remain to this day. He played with 2 world series teams, Kansas City Royals 1980 and the Toronto Blue Jays, 1992. He established himself permanently in the record books during his 11 years with the Toronto Blue Jays.

He is respected and admired by fellow players, managers and sports writers. Because of his passion for the game and desire to assist young players and coaches he is now out of retirement and enjoying speaking to all types of groups and articulating "What Really Matters."
"Rance Mulliniks could best be described as a hitter's hitter. A lifelong student of the art of hitting, Rance channelled this commitment and education to both the batter's box and to any player, coach or manager who was interested in discussing and improving their knowledge  and/or technique. He has the historical knowledge of a life in the game and always explains it from a contemporary perspective. Rance was the ultimate teammate who valued winning over personal accomplishments and led by example—never taking anything for granted, always prepared and always encouraging his teammates to be the best they could be –in my opinion, the ultimate compliment.”

Paul Beeston

President Emeritus, Toronto Blue Jays

Formerly President of the Blue Jays 1989-1997 and 2009-2015 and President Major League Baseball 1997-2002

"I started my career with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1989. That’s where I met Rance Mulliniks. He was an established veteran player, and I was fortunate to have him as a teammate. He shared his baseball knowledge with me and I learned a lot from him either by the conversations we had or overhearing him talking to other players. You could tell that he was a student of the game and knew what he was talking about.

As a baseball fan, Rance is someone that you want to hang out with or watch a game with. He is passionate about the game of baseball and has convictions about the right way to play it. He is fun to be around, has a great sense of humor, and is a great storyteller.”

John Olerud

First Baseman, Toronto Blue Jays, (1989–1996)

2 × All-Star (1993, 2001), 2 × World Series champion (1992, 1993), 3 × Gold Glove Award (2000, 2002, 2003), AL batting champion (1993).

"Rance was a great teammate and a consummate professional. Excellent student of the game. Outstanding athlete who could play all four positions on the infield. He was very instrumental in us winning in 1985, 89, 91, and in 1992.  ”

Cito Gaston

Manager & Coach Toronto Blue Jays

All-Star (1970), 2 × World Series champion (1992, 1993), Toronto Blue Jays Level of Excellence

"My first year in the big leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays I was a young emotional athlete who was surrounded by a veteran club. I looked up to many of my teammates and many of them mentored me. One of those guys was veteran Rance Mulliniks. Most young pitchers hang with the other pitchers and I was no different with one exception. That exception was Rance, he exuded an aura of wisdom and knowledge that I was drawn to. He not only spoke like a baseball God but he backed it up with his actions and preparation. It didn’t matter whether the team was asking him to play 3rd base, be the designated hitter, or be a pinch hitter off the bench that game, he went about his business as a true professional preparing to help the team any way he could. I’m forever grateful that I got to play alongside Rance as a young player because he immensely added to my baseball career. ”
